Women's
Fund Grants
Members of the Women's
Community Fund (WCF) recently announced the recipients of
this year's grant distribution.
The fund, with 23 contributors
donating $500 each, gave a total of $11,500 to the following
area organizations:
- Health Ministries of Harvey
County, $5,000
- Peace Connections, $2,100
- Respite Care, Trinity
Heights United Methodist Church, $1,700
- St. Matthews' Representative
Payee Program, $1,500
- Harvey County Domestic
Violence/Sexual Assault Task Force, $1,200
The WCF operates as a component
donor-advised fund of Newton Community & Healthcare
Foundation (NCHF).
The WCF's mission is to provide
an avenue for area women to engage in philanthropy, creating
a fund for projects which will benefit citizens in the Newton
area.
"We had eight organizations
apply for funds this year, and we were able to provide five
of the groups with grants," said Nancy Craig, WCF executive
board member. "I think our second year went very well,
and we continue to add new members, so next year should
be even better."
Any woman is welcome to support
the WCF. A year's commitment to the fund is $500 which can
be made in quarterly payments if the contributor chooses.
The partnership with NCHF allows all fund donations to be
tax-deductible.
Each year a Grants Committee
presents the membership with a list of possible grant recipients,
developed from member suggestions or grant applications.
This year grant applications will be limited to $5,000 per
request.
"We've decided to limit
the amount awarded to each grant request while our fund
is new to give groups a better opportunity to receive grants,"
added Craig.
