Leaving
A Legacy
Nearly 170 guests attended
the Newton area Leave a Legacy luncheon in late September
at the Prairie View Recreation Center.
Keynote speaker was Scott
Blakesley, the current president of the National Committee
on Planned Giving. Blakesley is a partner in the Kansas
City law firm of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin, LLP, and
chair of the firm's Estate Planning, Trusts & Estates
practice group.
Leave A Legacy is a program
of the National Committee on Planned Giving which promotes
interest in charitable giving through a will or an estate.
Working hand-in-hand with area philanthropic groups, such
as Newton Community & Healthcare Foundation, the campaign
encourages charitable planned giving.
"Leave A Legacy is a
month-long campaign to raise awareness in the community,"
said Pat Swartzendruber, LAL's 2001 chairperson. "We
try to teach individuals how they can leave a legacy by
giving charitably."
Leave A Legacy has been serving
the Harvey County area since 1998. Newton Community &
Healthcare Foundation is one of about 30 area organizations
