WCF
Awards 2002 Grants
NEWTON Grants totaling
$14,000 have been awarded to four Harvey County organizations
by the Women's Community Fund (WCF).
Recipients of the grants,
awarded annually by the WCF, are:
- Health Ministries of
Harvey County, $5,000
Helps provide medical, diagnostic, dental and mental health
services to medically indigent women in Harvey County.
- Harvey County Domestic
Violence/Sexual Assault Task Force, $5,000 Women and children
will receive some financial assistance to afford them
the chance to leave behind the abuse and set up a new
household. When an abused woman is caught without resources
to break out on her own, her life may continue as before.
This enables her to start on her own.
- Harvey County Habitat
for Humanity, $3,500
Funds used to purchase kitchen and bathroom fixtures for
the home
currently being built at 1213 Lorna Lane in Newton.
- Respite Care, Trinity
Heights United Methodist Church, $500
These funds will be used to give a more comprehensive
training experience to the care providers, expanding the
training program from six to 10 hours.
Twenty-eight contributors
donated $500 each this year to the WCF,
a donor-advised fund of Newton Community & Healthcare
Foundation (NCHF).
The WCF's mission is to provide
an avenue for area women to engage in philanthropy, creating
a fund for projects which will benefit citizens
in the Harvey County area. Any woman may support the WCF
with an annual commitment of $500. All contributions through
the fund are tax-deductible.
"The level of enthusiasm
and commitment from our members was at an all-time high
this year," said Nancy Craig, WCF executive board member.
"I look forward to adding
to and expanding our membership base next year.
There is a tremendous need in our community for an organization
like ours."
Each year a rotating Grants
Committee presents the membership with a
list of possible grant recipients, developed from member
suggestions or grant applications. Final approval on grant
recipients is given by NCHF.
Grant recipients are chosen
based on the following guidelines:
- Urgency or immediacy in
addressing a critical need
- Excitement...because it
is a bold new venture
- Creativity in providing
new solutions to time-worn problems
