Plays Key Role In Leave A Legacy
A directory of charities
in the greater Harvey County area is the keynote feature
of the new Leave a Legacy-Newton Web site.
 It's
a Web site that was encouraged by the Newton Community &
Healthcare Foundation (NCHF) that sees a strong Leave a
Legacy program as a catalyst in developing long-term endowment
for benefiting charities.
"The foundation has
a strong interest in Leave A Legacy because it extends the
mission that we promote," said Loren Friesen, NCHF
Executive Director.
Leave a Legacy-Newton was
launched in 1998 when Friesen and the Mennonite Foundation
staff suggested that the two organizations provide joint
leadership for a Leave A Legacy program in Newton.
As a result, Leave a Legacy-Newton
was established - the first Leave A Legacy program in Kansas.
This community education program encourages individuals
to plan for the future of their families and community through
various planned giving strategies.
Since then, NCHF has helped
the Leave A Legacy program in its fund-raising and public
education efforts, and is the largest underwriter of the
yearly campaign.
NCHF also provides office
support for the program - handling all contributions, taking
reservations, setting up the speakers bureau schedule, and
managing mailings, databases and receipts for the organization.
Friesen continues to serve
on the planning committee as do several NCHF board members.
"Helping Leave A Legacy
is just a win-win situation for NCHF," said Friesen.
"The better educated people become on planned giving
strategies, the more likely they are to give to area organizations,
such as NCHF."
