Neufeld Named to Board
Justina
D. Neufeld of Newton has been named to the Newton Community
& Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees.
She is filling the unexpired
term of former trustee Pat Swartzendruber.
Ms. Neufeld retired in 1998
after a 39-year career at Prairie View, Inc., Newton. She
served as a community mental health nurse, interim Director
of Nursing and Director of the Adult and Adolescent Day
Hospital. While there she also served as coordinator for
a project starting a new day hospital in Wichita, was interim
director of a child/adolescent team, and was instrumental
in developing a residential adolescent unit at Prairie View.
She was appointed by the
Kansas Board of Regents in 1986 to serve as an Adjunct Clinical
Coordinator of Nursing at Wichita State University. Ms.
Neufeld, who has authored a number of articles, was appointed
by Gov. Robert Docking in 1969 as a consultant in community
mental health to the School of Nursing at the National University
of Asuncion in Paraguay.
Ms. Neufeld currently is
serving on the board of Wheatland Homes in Newton, and has
served on the board of directors for Kidron Bethel Village.
A graduate of Leadership Newton, she has been nominated
for Woman of the Year in the business and professional category
by Soroptimist International of Newton, and has been active
in Soroptimist, the League of Women Voters, American Association
of University Women and professional nursing organizations.
Ms. Neufeld recently completed
her autobiography, "A Family Torn Apart," which
is being published this month. Born in the Ukraine, Ms.
Neufeld came to this country as a refugee at the age of
17 and lost contact with her immediate family. In her spare
time, she enjoys reading, music and travel.
