Garvey
Sisters Speaking At Key Leave a Legacy®
Event
Ann E. Garvey and Julie R.G.
Sheppard grew up in an atmosphere of giving.
As the children of Jean and
Willard Garvey, the sisters learned the importance of hard
work and the necessity of giving back to the community with
time and money.
The sisters will bring this
knowledge to their presentation, "Carrying on a Family
Tradition" at the keynote luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 14,
sponsored by Leave a Legacy®.
This event will be at the
Prairie View Recreation Center, 1901 E. First St., Newton.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the program will
begin at noon.
The program will include
a Readers Theater performance of "Sir Leavalot and
the Dragon's Treasure."
Reservations for tables of
six are available at $10 per person. Individual reservations
are $12 per person. For reservations, contact Ruby Stucky
at 316-804-6007 or e-mail to leavealegacy@nchf.net,

Mike Miller of the Mennonite
Foundation and chairman of the 2003 Leave a Legacy steering
committee expressed gratitude at having the Garvey sisters
speak.
"Our goal, with this
Leave a Legacy event, is to raise awareness that financial
support through estate planning is critical if our local
charities are to flourish and grow," he said.
Leave a Legacy is a community-based
program to help people learn about charitable giving through
a will or estate. Leave a Legacy does NOT solicit gifts
for any particular organization. Instead, the program is
a cooperative effort of all types of nonprofit groups, including
social service and arts organizations, churches, hospitals,
educational institutions and other philanthropic groups.
Besides Miller, members of
the Leave a Legacy steering committee are Noelle Dickinson
of Presbyterian Manor; Loren Friesen of Newton Community
& Healthcare Foundation; Mel Schadler of First Bank
of Newton; Bob Sjogren of Knudsen, Monroe & Company;
John Torline of Central Kansas Community Foundation; and
Brian Woods of Woods Law Office.
