Purpose:
The Women's Community Fund
(WCF), founded in 2000, gives area women a way to engage
in philanthropy. Their contributions support projects that
benefit citizens in the Newton, Kansas, area...and make
a powerful impact on the future of Harvey County.
Structure:
As the WCF is a donor-advised
fund of the Newton Community & Healthcare Foundation,
all contributions to the fund are tax-deductible. Such affiliation
also ensures professional management of all donations. Establishing
the fund through the foundation helped simplify the process
and save a significant amount on start-up costs.
Procedure:
Any woman is welcome to participate
by contributing $500 per year. In doing so, each participant
is eligible to vote at the annual meeting and serve on the
Grants Committee.
Grants:
2003
- Big Brothers & Big
Sisters of Harvey County, $3,500
- Health Ministries of Harvey
County, $5,000
- Harvey County Domestic
Violence/Sexual Assault Task Force, $5,000
Each year a rotating Grants
Committee presents the membership with a list of possible
grant recipients developed from member suggestions and grant
applications. Final approval on grant recipients is given
by the Newton Community & Healthcare Foundation.
Grant recipients are chosen
based on the following guidelines:
- Urgency or immediacy in
addressing a critical need
- Excitement...because it
is a bold new venture
- Creativity in providing
new solutions to time-worn problems
